ARPT plans to allocate three 4G licences; will announce winners in May.

Algeria’s telecoms regulator on Thursday announced the official opening of its 4G licensing contest.

The Autorité de Régulation de la Poste et des Télécommunications (ARPT) said the process is open to Algeria’s existing mobile operators.

There are three 4G licences available. Algeria is home to three main mobile network operators: state-owned Djezzy, Ooredoo’s local unit, and Algerie Telecom’s Mobilis.

Interested parties may collect contest documentation from the ARPT between 10 January and 13 January at a cost of 100,000 dinars (€857,000).

According to the Algerie Presse Service, the country will announce the licence winners in May.
