Cable group to deploy PTC’s ThingWorx IoT platform in France, Portugal.

Altice this week ramped up its IoT push by establishing a global partnership with IoT network provider Sigfox.

The cable group also announced plans to deploy PTC’s ThingWorx IoT platform in France and Portugal.

Under the deal with Sigfox, Altice’s French mobile unit SFR will use Sigfox’s low-power, wide-area network – which already covers 92% of the population – to complement its existing portfolio of IoT connectivity services.

The partnership will cover all markets where Altice is present, including Israel, Portugal, and the U.S.

Sigfox plans to launch its network in 30 countries during 2016.

"The IoT market is an opportunity to seize now, with a global vision," said Michel Combes, COO of Altice and CEO of SFR, in a statement on Tuesday. "We share the same entrepreneurial vision with Sigfox and the will to conquer new markets."

Meanwhile, Altice aims to leverage PTC’s ThingWorx platform in France and Portugal to enable it to rapidly develop and deploy IoT applications for enterprises and SMBs.

"After a thorough review of IoT technology options, we selected the ThingWorx IoT platform to get us to market much faster and to reach a wider group of constituents – SMB to enterprise – in a secure and scalable manner," Combes said.

"This is an important next step in driving our IoT strategy and the many innovative services and solutions that we are working to bring to market," he said.
