Altice on Thursday announced that it has secured exclusive rights to broadcast English top-flight football in France and Monaco for three seasons starting next summer.
The French cable group said its fixed and mobile customers will be able to watch Premier League football on any device from August 2016.
It did not reveal how much it paid for the rights, but earlier a number of publications, including the Financial Times and Reuters, put the figure at around €100 million per year.
Altice said it is "excited" about working with the Premier League.
This is another big step for Altice’s investment strategy to provide the best in class TV content and broadband packages to its customers across the world," said Nicolas Rotkoff, entertainment and sports CEO at Altice.
"This exclusive partnership with England’s Premier League represents a new major step in our industrial plan," added Michel Combes, Altice COO and chairman of its SFR mobile arm.
"The convergence of our telecom assets with exclusive content is core to our long term strategy," Combes said.
Premier League football is currently available in France through Canal+, the pay TV operator owned by Vivendi.
According to Reuters, Canal+ is paying €65 million a year for the rights.
