America Movil this week announced that shares in its spun-off telecoms towers business will start trading in Mexico on 21 December.

The Mexican operator said the move comes after the National Securities and Banking Commission authorised the registration of the shares.

Following the listing, the towers business – known as Telesites – will operate independently of America Movil, the telco confirmed.

America Movil announced plans to spin off Telesites last year and shareholders voted in favour of the move in April this year.

It initially made the decision as a way of sidestepping new regulation imposed upon it by IFT, which has worked hard to address issues of dominance in Mexico’s telecoms market in recent years.
