Chinese billing specialist AsiaInfo expanded its presence in Europe on Monday by winning a new deal with Telenor and opening a customer support centre in Budapest, Hungary.

AsiaInfo will undertake a major BSS transformation project for Telenor’s Hungarian operation. In November 2013, the Norwegian incumbent became AsiaInfo’s first European telco customer when it chose it to overhaul its billing systems at its Danish unit.

"Last year we celebrated our 20th anniversary, now we are preparing ourselves for the next 20 years: our new partner AsiaInfo will help us further improve the Telenor customer experience," said Christ opher Laska, CEO of Telenor Hungary, in a statement.

To support its growing European presence, AsiaInfo has also opened a Nearshore Delivery Centre (NDC), collocated in Telenor Hungary’s headquarters in Törökbálint, near Budapest.

"This new project in Hungary and the opening of the NDC represent major milestones in our global expansion," said Chen Huaping, senior director at AsiaInfo, who will be in charge of the NDC.

Over the next two years, AsiaInfo plans to recruit 180 staff at its NDC – more than half of whom will be local employees – and has set a target of providing support services to up to eight European operator projects by 2016.

"AsiaInfo will employ dozens of Hungarian developers, thus keeping local IT talent in Hungary and contributing to the growth of value-adding industries," said Laska.
