AT&T and America Movil have submitted applications to take part in next year’s AWS spectrum auction in Mexico, the regulator announced late last week.
The Federal Telecommunic ations Institute (IFT) received applications from two companies by its 17 December deadline: AT&T and Radiomóvil Dipsa, a unit of market leader America Movil.
In January the two companies will be able to request any additional documentation and must supply any documents requested of them, before the IFT formally approves their participation in the auction in early February.
The auction itself, which will use the combinatorial clock method – a first in Mexico – will begin on 15 February.
The IFT plans to auction off 80 MHz of frequencies in the AWS band, comprising 30 MHz of AWS-1 spectrum (1710-1725 MHz/2110-2125 MHz) and 50 MHz of AWS-3 spectrum (1755-1780 MHz/2155-2180 MHz).
In order to take part in the auction, participants must agree to the rearrangement of frequencies already licensed to allow for the creation of contiguous blocks and the efficient deployment of LTE.
