Just 24 hours after Verizon announced its $4.4 billion acquisition of AOL, rival AT&T made its own move in the content space, announcing a deal that will enable it to provide the Hulu streaming service to its customers.

Starting later this year, AT&T customers will be able to watch Hulu content via an AT&T mobile app or Website, the U.S. telco revealed on Wednesday.

The pair are also looking at partnering to bring a Hulu app to the TV, AT&T added.

It did not give any firm dates for availability of the service.

"We know that our customers want to be able to access video on multiple devices," said Andrew Goodman, associate vice president, content acquisition at AT&T, in a statement.

"So we’re excited to be able to expand our relationship with Hulu and make its innovative and vast video selections available to AT&T customers on multiple screens," he said.

Hulu’s subscription service includes major TV series from a variety of networks, as well as a range of movies and some of its own content.

AT&T already has a deal in place for free Hulu content; the new agreement will see it add in the paid-for version of the service.
