U.S. telco says TV platform provider will continue to expand its own customer base as well as underpinning AT&T’s online TV offerings.
AT&T this week announced it has completed the acquisition of Quickplay Media, the online TV platform provider it agreed to buy in May.
In a short statement, the U.S. telco confirmed that the deal has closed, but did not share further details, including the purchase price.
It agreed to acquire Canada-based Quickplay from Madison Dearborn Partners just over six weeks ago.
"The deal complements AT&T’s strategy to deliver video content wherever and whenever viewers want it by adding a leader in powering over-the-top (OTT) video and TV Everywhere services to AT&T’s portfolio," the telco said.
Quickplay is the platform provider for AT&T’s U-verse TV Everywhere service and will underpin the new streaming offers AT&T plans to launch via DirecTV later this year.
Despite becoming part of AT&T, Quickplay will continue to build its own global customer base, from video providers to content distributors, AT&T said.
It plans to retain Quickplay’s 350-plus employees and contractors.
