Hot on the heels of T-Mobile US, AT&T on Wednesday announced that eligible mobile customers will soon be able to carry forward any data left over at the end of the month into the next one.
Called Rollover Data, the service is available at no extra cost to customers on one of the U.S. telco’s shared price plans, called Mobile Share Value. At the end of a given billing cycle, any unused d ata will carry forward into the next one. There is no limit to how much can be rolled over, and the data is available to use by every line on the shared price plan.
"We’re providing even more value and flexibility, and the best part is it’s simple, shareable and easy to track for our customers. All Mobile Share Value customers get this automatically," said Glenn Lurie, CEO of AT&T Mobility, in a statement.
"It’s just another way that we’re saying thanks to our more than 50 million plus Mobile Share Value subscribers," he said.
Rollover Data will launch on 25 January.
The offer is similar in many ways to T-Mobile’s Data Stash, which was announced in mid-December. However, T-Mobile allows customers to accrue excess data and store it for up to 12 months, while AT&T only stores excess data for one billing cycle.
In addition, eligible T-Mobile US customers automatically receive 10 GB of free data in their Data Stash.
