Multi-year AWS partnership centres on cloud networking, IoT, security.

AT&T on Thursday struck a multi-year partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) that allows enterprises to make the most of the companies’ respective networking and cloud assets.

"Together, AT&T and AWS can help streamline the leap to the cloud. We’re helping businesses connect everything and anything to the cloud. More importantly, we’re doing this so it can be simple, scalable and highly secure," said Mo Katibeh, SVP of advanced solutions at AT&T Business Solutions, in a statement.

The partnership is centred on three main areas: business cloud networking, IoT, and security.

AT&T already provides cloud connectivity services to AWS users via its Netbond solution. Under the partnership announced on Thursday, the companies will work together on new cloud networking solutions that come with enhanced performance, security and mobility features.

In the area of IoT, AT&T and AWS plan to introduce sensors and devices that are preconfigured to send data securely to the Amazon cloud.

Finally, when it comes to security, AT&T and Amazon plan to combine their knowledge to help enterprises identify and mitigate threats even more effectively.

"Advanced connectivity and network solutions are critical to enabling our customers to get the most out of our services. We are excited to expand our alliance with AT&T and deliver new solutions designed to enable customers to accelerate their journey to the AWS cloud," said Terry Wise, vice president of AWS’ worldwide partner ecosystem.

Thursday’s announcement comes a day after AT&T strengthened its cloud networking partnership with IBM.

The deal will see IBM resell AT&T’s FlexWare virtual network functions (VNF) management platform to enterprises, as well as roll it out at its own sites. Meanwhile, AT&T will be able to run applications on IBM’s cloud, cognitive, analytics and security infrastructure.

"By expanding our relationship with IBM, more customers will be able to take advantage of AT&T FlexWare that will adapt and grow with customers’ business needs," said Steve McGaw, chief marketing officer, AT&T Business Solutions, on Wednesday.
