Hutchison Global Communications (HGC) and BT have brokered a deal to interconnect their IPX networks.
The move will enable both telcos to offer improved connectivity to their mobile operator customers in their respective markets.
"We are excited to work with HGC to extend our mutual coverage via IPX peering connections and extend BT’s reach to include HGC’s extensive footprint in Asia," BT’s vice president of global telecom markets Andrew Dodsworth said in a statement on Tuesday.
HGC expressed similar sentiments.
"This collaboration will enable MNOs and other operator customers to deliver traffic through our global network extending from Asia to Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Africa," said Andrew Kwok, president of HGC’s international and carrier business.
The telcos pointed out that the deal will help them to deliver services such as mobile signalling, data roaming and voice over IPX, in addition to more advanced IP services in future like voice over LTE (VoLTE) and HD video calling and conferencing.
