Companies working on second stage that could see French telco sell up to 500 towers.

Spanish infrastructure firm Cellnex late last week completed the €80 million acquisition of 230 mobile towers from Bouygues Telecom.

The deal represents phase one of a two-part agreement. Cellnex said the companies are now working on phase two, which is expected to be finalised by the end of 2016, and could see the number of towers sold to Cellnex increase to up to 500.

Cellnex and Bouygues Telecom announced their deal in July. As part of the agreement, Cellnex will provide infrastructure services to the French telco for the next 20 years.

"We are embarking on a long-term collaboration that opens the door to other areas of interest such as the construction of new build-to-suit sites or the rollout of new technologies based on small cells for mobile broadband," said Cellnex CEO Tobías Martínez, in a statement on Friday.

"We are bolstering our European reach and, with it, the ability to build agreements and alliances with customers operating in various European countries to which we can offer connectivity solutions for telecommunications," he added.

Cellnex said it expects the towers purchased from Bouygues Telecom and the related infrastructure services to generate annual revenue of €6.9 million.
