China Telecom has become the first operator in Mainland China to deploy Ericsson’s Radio Dot small cell system, the vendor revealed on Tuesday.
China Telecom has rolled out the LTE version of the Radio Dot in its offices in Zhejiang and Guangdong. The latter deployment saw China Telecom aggregate 20 MHz of 1800-MHz spectrum and 20 MHz of 2.1-GHz spectrum to achieve a theoretical maximum speed of 300 Mbps.
"We have received very good feedback from China Telecom on the Ericsson Radio Dot system’s excellent performance, ease of deployment and cost-efficiency," said Chris Houghton, head of Ericsson’s northeast Asia business, in a statement.
Ericsson’s disk-shaped Radio Dot system was first unveiled in September 2013. Resembling a smoke alarm, the small cells must be connected to dedicated cat 5 LAN cables, which run to an indoor radio unit, which in turn connects to the nearest macro base station.
As well as China Telecom, Ericsson’s Radio Dot has also been deployed by Claro, MTS, Singtel, Telefonica, Verizon and Vodafone.
"Ericsson will continue to assist China Telecom and other operators in the country with innovative solutions to provide the best network coverage and speed," Houghton said.
