CUniq to run on O2’s network, allows customers to use multiple phone numbers on one SIM.
China Unicom Global (CUG) has launched a U.K. MVNO service that allows customers to assign more than one phone number to a single SIM card.
The service, called CUniq, runs on O2’s network, and supports U.K., Hong Kong, and Mainland China phone numbers.
Anyone with a CUniq SIM card can travel to these destinations and access mobile services at local rates without swapping their SIM. The service also supports roaming in a further 45 countries. CUniq also provides customer support in English and Chinese.
"The launch of CUniq enables CUG to offer more convenient services to customers in Europe. Its launch symbolises accelerating expansion of its international business and marks a milestone for CUG’s development of MVNO services in overseas markets," said a statement from CUG attributed to Jiang Zhengxin, deputy general manager of China Unicom.
CUniq is pitched at business users, overseas students and tourists.
CUG said it plans to launch CUniq in more markets, including America, Australia, and Japan.
Roaming connectivity services are being provided to CUG by Isle of Man-based operator Manx Telecom.
"This is a major coup for our Global Solutions division," said Manx Telecom CEO Gary Lamb, in a statement. "We look forward to working closely with China Unicom to make this new partnership a great success."
