German incumbent to launch NB-IoT prototyping hub at start-up incubators in Berlin, Krakow.
Deutsche Telekom has ramped up its efforts around narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) technology with the launch of its Prototyping Hub, which is aimed at helping companies develop new products and services.
Run out of its hub:raum start-up accelerator facilities in Berlin and Krakow, the NB-IoT Prototyping Hub gives current and prospective customers access to the German incumbent’s IoT developers.
By working closely, customers can build innovative and scalable applications, and bring them to market quickly.
"Our aim is to provide our customers with IoT solutions that work worldwide based on international standards," said Deutsche Telekom CTO Bruno Jacobfeuerborn, in a statement last week.
NB-IoT uses licensed spectrum to provide two-way communication over long distances and in hard-to-reach locations. It supports very large numbers of low throughput, low cost devices that consume very little power.
3GPP in June completed the standardisation of NB-IoT as part of its work on LTE Release 13.
"NB-IoT technology is a future-proof and reliable solution that supports international operations and will enable a meaningful and broad IoT ecosystem for our customers in the coming years," said Jacobfeuerborn.
