German incumbent’s new multi-IoT platform supports Microsoft, Cisco, Huawei.

Deutsche Telekom has made a bid to tackle fragmentation in the IoT market with the launch of a multi-IoT platform.

As the name suggests, it brings together IoT platforms from different, well-known providers to enable device-independent use of IoT solutions.

"We’ve only captured 5% of the potential of the IoT. This is due, among other factors, to the highly fragmented market, which requires users to manage many different specialist suppliers," said Anette Bronder, director of T-Systems’ digital division, in a statement last week.

Deutsche Telekom said its multi-IoT platform aims to play the role of interpreter and distributor, collecting data from connected devices and routing it through gateways to the customer’s preferred platform for processing.

The German incumbent said all the data its multi-IoT platform handles is subject to strict data privacy and protection laws, and that only authorised users, and its T-Systems unit, will have access to said data.

The German incumbent will start by supporting Microsoft’s Azure IoT Suite, followed by Cisco Fog, and Huawei’s IoT platform.

"We now offer a scalable, pan-industry platform, together with plug-and-play starter packages to help companies begin using the IoT," Bronder said.
