Ericsson on Monday announced that it has acquired Sunrise Technology, a provider of IT services that is based in Guangzhou, China.

Sunrise Technology, an OSS/BSS specialist, will become part of Ericsson in the second quarter of this year, but will remain a distinct entity in its own right, the Swedish vendor said. The deal is subject to the usual closing conditions.

Ericsson did not disclose the value of the deal.

The firm provides IT consulting services, systems integration for billing systems, CRM and analytics solutions, and application development. It has around 1,000 employees.

Ericsson was keen to point out the potential of boosting its presence in a market that is home to 1.29 billion mobile subscriptions.

"Most of the country’s telecom operators are at the beginning of their IT transformation journeys, and will soon replace their legacy IT systems with next-generation solutions that will enable them to launch digital offerings," said Magnus Mandersson, EVP and head of global services at Ericsson, in a statement.

"The acquisition of Sunrise Technology’s telecom business will boost our ability to serve mobile operators’ IT transformation needs in China, and is aligned with our strategy of becoming a global ICT leader," he added.
