Senior management changes continue as Swedish kit maker condenses two roles into one.

Ericsson this week made further adjustments to its senior management team, appointing Ulf Ewaldsson as chief strategy and technology officer.

Ewaldsson has been at the Swedish kit maker since 1990, and currently serves as CTO. He will now take on the responsibilities of chief strategy officer as well, after Ericsson’s current CSO, Rima Qureshi, was appointed head of the company’s North America business.

The changes are effective immediately. Both Ewaldsson and Qureshi will continue to report to Jan Frykhammar, who became interim CEO following the departure of Hans Vestberg in July.

"In the rapid technology development and transformation of our industry it makes perfect sense to combine technology strategy and strategy development into one process," Frykhammar said, in a statement on Tuesday.

He said the move is a natural step as Qureshi "fully focuses on driving the business development and customer relationships in one of the most advanced technology markets in the world."

North America was one of the few highlights from Ericsson’s most recent financial report, as capacity upgrades by the region’s mobile operators helped to offset the slowdown in Europe, and macroeconomic weakness in Brazil, Russia and the Middle East.
