Sergei Soldatenkov to lead Russian operator for next three years, as Ivan Tavrin departs.

MegaFon on Wednesday announced that it has reappointed Sergei Soldatenkov to the chief executive role after the former holder of the post, Ivan Tavrin, tendered his resignation.

Soldatenkov is currently serving as chairman of the Russian telco, a post he took up four years ago after holding the chief executive officer role for almost a decade.

Pending the approval of MegaFon shareholders, he will take on the top job for a new three-year term. Until the upcoming annual general meeting, he will officially be designated as MegaFon’s acting CEO.

In a statement, Soldatenkov said he is "glad to be back to run day-to-day operations," at MegaFon.

"While serving as the board chairman I have acquired a better understanding of our strategic challenges and opportunities and how to grow shareholder value," he said.

MegaFon said Tavrin is leaving the company "to focus on his current and new business projects, as well as serving as a board member of USM Holdings."

He has been at the helm since Soldatenkov moved upstairs in April 2012.
