Bidding in the ongoing auction of mobile spectrum in Germany passed the €3 billion mark on Wednesday afternoon.

After 106 rounds, the running total in the auction stood at €3.04 bil lion, with the 900 MHz and 1800 MHz bands responsible for much of the sum raised so far.

The 1800 MHz band has drawn bids totalling €1.5 billion, while bidding in the 900 MHz band stands at almost €826 million.

The state is also selling frequencies in the 700 MHz band and unpaired spectrum at 1500 MHz, but the sums offered are much lower. The 700 MHz band has drawn €450 million worth of bids, while the 1500 MHz band has attracted just under €260 million.

Incumbent Deutsche Telekom remains the highest spending participant, having pledged €1.22 billion for spectrum in all four bands.

Vodafone is also bidding in all four categories and has committed to €1.01 billion so far, while the third participant, Telefonica, has bid €816 million across all bands except 1500 MHz.

Bidding in the auction has slowed in recent days, but it is still unclear how many more rounds will take place before it draws to a close.
