Gigaclear this week announced that it has begun work on a new U.K. broadband rollout project in the Cotswolds, just days after it revealed that its existing infrastructure now covers 10,000 homes and businesses elsewhere in the country.
The firm, whose raison d’etre is to provide ultrafast fibre broadband to rural locations in the U.K., said it has started digging in the Cotswolds in western England with a view to providing broadband access to eight communities by Christmas and a total of 6,495 premises by the end of 2017.
"This will be a life changing project for many people living and working here with poor broadband service," said Gigaclear CEO Matthew Hare, on Thursday.
"Gigaclear is proud that our new ultrafast pure fibre broadband will deliver performance up to 40 times faster than the U.K. average to thousands of homes and businesses in 2016 and 2017," he sa id.
Earlier in the week Gigaclear announced that it has rolled out gigabit fibre broadband to 10,000 homes and business to 36 U.K. communities in five counties.
It has a take-up rate of nearly 40%.
"We have made fantastic progress this year already delivering ultrafast broadband to more than twice the number of properties than we did last year," Hare said.
"The additional networks currently in construction, plus our significant pipeline of new networks, clearly demonstrates the huge level of demand in rural areas for the unique service Gigaclear provides," he added.
