Helios Towers Africa (HTA) on Wednesday named Kash Pandya as its new chief executive.

Pandya replaces HTA’s co-founder and current CEO, Chuck Green, who will take on the role of executive chairman.

He joins the company from power generation firm Aggreko, where he served as managing director of Aggreko International. In that role he was responsible for the company’s operations in Africa, South America, Central America, India, Asia, Australasia and the Middle East.

"[Pandya] not only brings with him significant experience in leading multi-country operations in emerging markets, but also his expertise in driving growth through customer-orientated services," said Chuck Green, executive chairman of HTA, in a statement.

"His in-depth experience in managing complex power systems in emerging markets will prove invaluable in providing a unique perspective in delivering and maintaining operational excellence," he added.

HTA said that during his tenure at Aggreko International, Pandya oversaw launches in 10 African countries and the business doubled in size under his leadership.

Pandya said he is "very excited" to be joining HTA.

"Chuck and the team have built an incredible business with unrivalled expertise in owning and managing tower assets across Afric a and I look forward to working with them to help fulfil both the continent’s and the company’s potential," he said.

HTA owns and manages 5,000 telecoms towers across Ghana, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Congo.
