Huawei on Tuesday partnered with German software provider SAP in a bid to accelerate research into the Internet of Things (IoT).
The companies plan to integrate Huawei’s ICT infrastructure and network solutions with SAP’s HANA cloud platform, SAP applications, and analytics tools. Their initial focus will be on agile manufacturing, smart energy, and transport solutions. They will coordinate their efforts from Shenzhen, China and Walldorf, Germany.
"With extensive experience and expertise in ICT infrastructure, Huawei is committed to collaborating with SAP to leverage our respective technologies and market capabilities to develop differentiated IoT and cloud solutions. These solutions are designed to help global enterprises across different sectors deploy new technologies easily and quickly," said William Xu, Huawei’s chief strategy and marketing officer, in a statement.
Tuesday’s announcement builds on an existing partnership between Huawei and SAP that focuses on contact centres, big data, smart cities and bring your own device (BYOD). The extended partnership puts the focus on what is referred to as ‘Industry 4.0’, a term used to describe the integration of ICT systems with physical objects to support the IoT and automated manufacturing processes.
"Huawei and SAP complement each other: Huawei offers extensive experience in ICT infrastructure while SAP, amongst others, focuses on the development of an open platform and enterprise software," said Bernd Leukert, the board member responsible for SAP’s products and innovation division.
"We believe that technological collaborations that integrate our companies’ expertise will enable us to create enriched enterprise solutions and bring even greater value to customers in China, Europe and emerging markets," he said.
