French telco claims mobile market share of 17.4%; fixed-line revenue growth accelerates.

France’s Iliad on Wednesday reported a 6.3% increase in first half revenue thanks to another strong performance by its mobile business and encouraging signs at its fixed-line division.

Revenue for the six months to 30 June climbed to €2.3 billion from €2.16 billion a year ago. The growth was driven primarily by Free Mobile, which saw first half revenue surge 10.6% year-on-year to €973.4 million.

Revenue at Iliad’s fixed-line operation increased 3.4% to €1.33 billion. By comparison, the growth rate in the first half of 2015 was just 0.5%.

First half group EBITDA rose to €808.5 million from €725 million a year ago, while net profit jumped 16.9% year-on-year to €190.4 million.

"The group delivered further excellent performances during the period despite a still highly competitive market," said Iliad, in a statement.

Indeed, Free Mobile ended June with 12.1 million customers, up from 10.9 million at the end of June 2015, good enough for a 17.4% share of France’s mobile market, according to Iliad. 4G customers almost doubled on-year to 4.7 million from 2.4 million.

Meanwhile, Iliad’s broadband customer base grew to 6.3 million from 6 million a year earlier.
