Iliad on Thursday reported third quarter revenue grew 5.3% on last year driven by another strong performance by Free Mobile.

The French telco’s mobile business added 390,000 customers in the three months to 30 September, giving it 11.3 million in total, enough to maintain its 16% share of the market. Its 4G customer base grew to 2.8 million from 2.4 million in the prior quarter.

"This performance was achieved thanks to the group’s successful ongoing strategy of enriching its commercial offerings," including offering free roaming in the EU and the U.S., and a 50 GB data allowance for 4G customers , said Iliad, in a statement.

Free Mobile also saw an improvement in the subscriber mix, with more new customers opting for its €19.99 monthly tariff than its entry-level €2.00 per month offering for the second quarter in a row.

This drove revenue at Free Mobile to €463 million, up 11.4% year-on-year.

Iliad’s fixed business also turned in a good quarter, adding 91,000 broadband customers to take its total to 6.1 million at the end of September. Q3 revenue grew 1.4% year-on-year to €651 million, while ARPU inched down to €34.50 from €34.70 a year ago.

Overall, Iliad generated revenue of €1.11 billion in the third quarter, up from €1.06 billion a year earlier.
