China-based ZTE said it has won a deal to expand the 3G and LTE networks of U Mobile in Malaysia, extending an existing long-term partnership between the two companies.
Under the terms of the agreement, the equipment ma nufacturer will expand and optimise U Mobile’s networks in Malaysia’s major cities, deploying technology for 3G wireless access, LTE wireless access, core network, power supply, bearer network and microwave transmission services.
“This expansion project is a significant milestone in the partnership between ZTE and U Mobile,” said Zhou Fang, vice president, ZTE. “We are committed to offering ZTE’s industry-leading products and solutions to assist U Mobile in building the highest-performance networks across Malaysia, delivering a superior mobile broadband user experience to subscribers.”
ZTE, which competes with domestic rival Huawei as well as international rivals Nokia Networks, Ericsson and Alcatel-Lucent, said it had signed 170 commercial contracts for 4G LTE and evolved packet core (EPC) networks around the world by the end of December 2014, covering 70% of countries with investments in 4G LTE.
When reporting its preliminary financial results in January, the company also said that its full-year net profit almost doubled in 2014. Revenue is expected to show growth of 8% to CNY81.2 billion (€11.5 billion), driven by growing demand for LTE infrastructure and smartphones.
ZTE is due to publish its audited annual results on 25 March.
