Nokia Networks on Wednesday won a nationwide small cell deal with Ooredoo Qatar.

The contract will see Ooredoo roll out Nokia’s 3G and 4G microcells, and 4G picocells, to improve network capacity in high-footfall areas such as cafes and restaurants.

"Our customers demand high-quality services, even in complex hotspots and crowded urban zones. Nokia Networks’ small cells will enable us to provide just that: more capacity, higher availability and reduced latency," said Waleed Al Sayed, chief operating officer at Ooredoo Qatar, in a statement.

Nokia Networks will also provide its NetAct network management solution, as well as network planning, optimisation, design and implementation services to identify high-traffic areas and ensure a smooth deployment.

Wednesday’s ag reement follows a trial that saw Nokia small cells installed in high-traffic indoor and outdoor locations in Doha, the capital of Qatar.

"This deal marks an important step forward in our longstanding partnership with Ooredoo Qatar, an operator intensely focused on delivering top quality services to its customers," said Bernard Najm, head of Middle East and Africa at Nokia Networks.
