One-year agreement will see telco deploy Finnish vendor’s ‘5G-ready’ AirScale base station.

Nokia on Monday announced a frame agreement with China Mobile worth €1.36 billion.

Under the one-year deal the Finnish vendor will provide its so-called ‘5G-ready’ AirScale base station. Nokia will also supply fixed access, IP routing and optical transport equipment, as well as customer experience management and OSS solutions, third-party products, and managed services.

"This is a highly significant agreement with our longstanding partner; it strengthens Nokia’s position as a leading provider of next-generation technologies in China, and reflects our larger footprint in the country following the acquisition of Alcatel-Lucent," said Mike Wang, president of the joint management team at Nokia Networks China and Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell (ASB).

China Mobile had 834.77 million mobile customers at the end of April, of which 391.42 million are 4G customers.

Going forward, Nokia said the companies will together to identify products and services that will meet its increasingly demanding customer base.

"We are committed to delivering mobile broadband capabilities that will allow operators to optimise their networks and open up new opportunities for them and their subscribers," Wang said.
