TeliaSonera and Telenor both won spectrum in the 1800-MHz band in Norway’s recently-concluded auction, the regulator announced on Thursday.

The process generated 877.98 million kroner (€95 million), the Norwegian Communications Authority (Nkom) said.

There were 15 MHz of 1800-MHz spectrum up for grabs, spectrum that was left unsold in a December 2013 multi-band auction.

Telenor picked up 2 x 10 MHz for NOK585.32 million, while TeliaSonera took home the other 5 MHz for NOK292.66 million.

A third participant, Ice Communication Norge, also bid for spectrum but was unsuccessful, the regulator said.

Thursday’s announcement completes the allocation phase of the process, but the assignment stage, in which the winners’ position on the frequency band, has yet to come.

Telenor and TeliaSonera have until 20 January to negotiate placements between them. Should they fail to present Nkom with a written agreement by that date, the regulator will conduct an assignment auction to decide the outcome.
