NTT Communications on Wednesday confirmed it recently agreed to purchase Indonesian data centre provider Cyber CSF.

The Japan-based telco giant’s new CEO Tetsuya Shoji revealed earlier this month that his company was on the verge of just such an acquisition, but did not disclose the name of the target.

The deal eases the pressure on NTT Com, which has been offering data centre services in Indonesia since 2001 and has nearly exhausted its existing capacity.

With a 7,700 square metre facility in Jakarta, Cyber CSF is Indonesia’s largest data centre operator. It is connected to 32 domestic and international carriers, and has a direct connection to an Internet exchange used by multiple ISPs.

"The acquisition further strengthens NTT Com’s Nexcenter data centre capabiliti es in the Asia-Pacific region, where it serves major local and multinational customers, especially in the fields of finance, IT and manufacturing," said NTT Com, in a statement.

NTT Com has an existing point-of-presence (PoP) at Cyber CSF for its global IP network. It plans to establish another one for its Arcstar Universal One VPN platform, that will enable its NTT Indonesia subsidiary to operate closed networks for corporate clients.

The company will also build a fibre network connecting its new data centre – which it will rename NTT Indonesia Nexcenter – to other data centres in suburban Jakarta and outlying industrial parks and office buildings.
