Deal would expand Japanese telco’s IT services capabilities in overseas markets.

Japan’s NTT is in talks to acquire Perot Systems, the IT services division of PC maker Dell, it emerged on Tuesday.

Unnamed sources cited by The Wall Street Journal said the parties are negotiating a deal worth several billion dollars; however, the exact price and scope of the transaction has yet to be decided.

The acquisition would bolster NTT’s international presence in the IT outsourcing market and would be in line with the aggressive expansion strategy of its enterprise services arm, NTT Communications.

Founded in 1988, Perot Systems was acquired by Dell in September 2009 for US$3.9 billion.

Dell began quietly sounding out potential suitors in late 2015 in a bid to raise cash to fund its acquisition of storage company EMC.

Tata Consultancy Services reportedly showed interest, as did France’s Atos, according to a Recode report in January.

NTT was named as the frontrunner for Perot in a Reuters report in mid-February. Dell is reportedly seeking more than $5 billion for the unit.
