Telefonica UK said on Tuesday it aims to improve the performance of its London network with a pilot deployment of traffic monitoring and management solutions developed by U.S.-based Vasona Networks.
"We field tested in one of the world’s most densely-populated markets to confirm the Vasona platforms’ abilities to benefit mobile data performance for our customers. This pilot deployment represents the next phase of our work together," said Tommy Björkberg, head of network strategy and programmes at Telefonica UK, in a statement.
Vasona is providing Telefonica with an analytics engine that can present real-time and historic traffic trends across individual cell sites, giving the operator a detailed view of where, when and how cust omers use its network, and how usage is evolving.
Vasona is also supplying dynamic rate control with feedback (DRCF) technology that manages demand on per base station basis by modifying data speeds according to the level of congestion in that specific part of the network. It has been shown to lower latency and mitigate packet loss resulting in an improved customer experience.
Tuesday’s pilot deployment applies to O2 UK’s 3G network and spans 700 base stations across London.
"Our work with Telefonica demonstrates how Vasona Networks collaborates with mobile network operators worldwide on assuring the best consumer experiences," said Biren Sood, CEO of Vasona Networks.
