Ooredoo Qatar this week revealed it has struck an IPX deal with Syniverse in order to improve LTE roaming for its mobile customers.

Syniverse’s IPX Network Solution provides a carrier-grade connection to the vendor’s IP network that currently serves almost 800 LTE roaming routes, with LTE reach into 44 countries and more than 200 operators.

"The increased bandwidth supported by the IPX network will enable customers to enjoy the incredible speeds of our bigger, faster network even when they travel outside of Qatar," said Yousuf Al Kubaisi, CEO of Ooredoo Global Services (OGS) – the Qatari incumbent’s wholesale division – in a statement on Wednesday.

"The Syniverse IPX enhances Ooredoo Qatar’s ability to deliver the flawless, uninterrupted service that its inbound and outbound roamers expect," added Nour Al Atassi, regional vice president and EMEA managing director at Syniverse. "Providing flawless service not o nly benefits Ooredoo Qatar, but also ensures brand protection for roamers’ home operators whose users expect to make calls, browse the Web, check social media and download videos as if they were at home."

The announcement comes after OGS in March struck three partnerships that will extend the reach and range of its services.

It agreed to interconnect its IPX infrastructure with PCCW Global – the wholesale arm of Hong Kong Telecommunications (HKT) – and tapped into Belgian carrier BICS’ IPX platform. OGS also agreed to managed the Sea-Me-We 5 submarine cable system’s landing stations in Qatar and Oman on behalf of parent company Ooredoo.
