Ooredoo this week announced a senior management reshuffle that will see Saud bin Nasser al Thani become its new group chief executive.
Al Thani has until now held the role of CEO of the Qatar-based telco’s domestic operation. He replaces Nasser Marafih, who has been appointed to Ooredoo’s board and becomes an advisor to chairman Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Saud al Thani.
Marafih has served as group CEO for well over a decade, during which time he oversaw the telco’s expansion to 15 markets across the Middle East, North Africa and Southeast Asia, as well as the group rebranding to Ooredoo from Qtel.
"We offer our highest gratitude and thanks to Dr. Nasser for his valuable contributions and efforts that he provided as chief executive officer of the group. His time in the role was characterised with persistence and hard work, and we look forward to benefit from his service and expertise at the board," said Abdulla al Thani, in a statement on Thursday.
"I also want to wish Sheikh Saud bin Nasser al Thani success in leading the group at this exciting period which will witness a lot of developments in the telecoms industry," he said.
The management shuffle also sees Ooredoo Qatar’s chief operating officer, Waleed Mohamed al-Sayed, become CEO of the domestic business and deputy group CEO. Yusuf Abdulla al Kubaisi will become the new COO of Ooredoo Qatar.
