Orange on Tuesday announced that it is rolling out its Orange Cash mobile payments service throughout France, having launched in a handful of cities last year.

The telco unveiled the prepaid NFC mobile payment solution, which it operates in partnership with Visa, in late 2013, naming Caen and Strasbourg as the first markets for launch the following year.

It also launched Orange Cash in Lille, Nice and Rennes in 2014, and is now making it available across metropolitan France.

Orange Cash is already available at 324,000 points of sale. Orange did not disclose how many customers are using the service in the launch markets, but noted that more than 3 million Orange France customers have NFC-compatible devices.

To encourage those customers to download the Orange Cash app and use the service, Orange is offering the first 150,000 to sign up a €10 credit to their account and €1 per purchase in cash back – on purchases in excess of €1 – up to a maximum of €25 in one year.

"In addition to enhancing the customer relationship at points of sale with mobile payment, Orange Cash offers retailers opportunities to communicate with their customers and prospec ts in real time," the telco said, in a statement. "They use geolocation to personalise their offers and to manage and win the loyalty of their customer base," it added.

"In an increasingly digital and mobile environment, Orange Cash offers any outlet and retailers alike the opportunity to re-enforce their commercial relationships," Orange said.
