Reliance Jio Infocomm will launch 4G mobile services in the 2016-17 financial year, which commences on 1 April next year.
The Indian operator had previously said it would bring services to market in December, according to local press reports earlier this year.
Its parent company Reliance Industries made the announcement alongside its half year results presentation on Friday.
It revealed that Reliance Jio has substantially completed its network rollout across India and said it is currently testing and optimising the infrastructure.
"The initial results have been positive," Reliance Industries said, in a statement.
"The company expects to ramp up its beta programme over the next few weeks to further optimise the network, prior to commercial launch of operations," it added. "Financial year 2016-17 is projected to be the first year of commercial operations."
Reliance reminded the market that Reliance Jio is rolling out both fixed and mobile services, and that in addition to offering voice and data, it will also bring to market digital services in the education, healthcare, financial services and entertainment sectors, amongst others.
It also noted that it will launch services using its spectrum holdings in the 800 MHz, 1800 MHz and 2.3 GHz bands, adding that it has submitted a request to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for permission to share 800 MHz spectrum in seven circles with Reliance Communications.
Reliance Jio is already offering mobile services to end users, having launched its Jio Chat over-the-top (OTT) voice and messaging app in April.
The addition of full, own-network-based voice and data services looks set to coincide with the arrival of a new line of smartphones.
Reliance Industries said its Reliance Retail arm "will soon launch" a range of 4G smartphones under the LYF brand.
The devices will offer features such as voice over LTE (VoLTE), voice over WiFi (VoWiFi), and HD voice and video, Reliance said.
It plans to make LYF devices available across India at retail outlets, including its own, but provided no more concrete timeframe than "soon".
