UNLIMIT to use Cisco Jasper’s IoT management platform, RCom’s networks; aims to drive smart cities growth in India.
Reliance Group on Tuesday launched a new IoT venture in India in partnership with Cisco Jasper.
Called UNLIMIT, the unit will combine Cisco Jasper’s management platform, Control Centre, with the networks of Reliance’s telco arm, Reliance Communications (RCom), to offer IoT services to businesses and the public sector.
The new venture is led by Juergen Hase, who joined Reliance Group as CEO of its IoT business in July. Before that, he was director of IoT and M2M at Ooredoo.
"IoT is a critical enabler for India’s growth, and businesses throughout the country are already utilising its huge potential to help deliver innovative new services to their customers, while reducing cost and increasing revenue," Hase said, in a statement. "We are delighted to partner with Cisco Jasper, and this strategic partnership will strengthen the market position of UNLIMIT significantly."
Reliance and Cisco Jasper said UNLIMIT can also play an important role in meeting the government’s objective of developing 100 smart cities under its Smart Cities Mission, which forms part of prime minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India programme.
"The combination of Reliance’s powerful mobile networks and cloud services with the global Cisco Jasper IoT connectivity management platform provides a full suite of solutions for smart city initiatives," the companies said.
In addition, Cisco said it will strengthen its commitment to India by recruiting the country’s top IoT engineering talent and putting them to work in the Cisco Innovation Centre, in Bengaluru.
"We are a company with deep roots in India, as both myself and one of my co-founders were born and raised here," said Jahangir Mohammed, GM of Cisco Jasper.
"It is inspiring to see both the government and enterprises throughout India invest in IoT to advance both the country and commerce, which is why we are making our own investment in this market," he said. "Reliance Group’s deep commitment to advancing IoT throughout the country makes them an ideal partner."
