Rogers Communications this week announced the acquisition of Internetworking Atlantic Inc. (IAI), a move that will help it serve business and public sector customers on Canada’s Atlantic coast.
The Canadian operator said the deal will provide it with additional capabilities in the cloud services and data centre space.
It did not disclose the value of the transaction.
"The expertise IAI provides in data centre services, cloud solutions and fibre networking will benefit businesses from large to small," said Nitin Kawale, president of Rogers Communications’ enterprise business unit.
"This local expertise and service combined with our national network and business capabilities will provide customers with the solutions they need to drive growth," he said.
Rogers will take over IAI’s data centre in Halifax, increasing its data centre footprint to 16. It will also gain IAI’s virtual and hosted services, professional services and fibre footprint across Atlantic Canada.
"This strategic investment is key to supporting our growing client base, particularly in the large and medium [sized] business sectors," said Ken Marshall, VP of enterprise sales for the Atlantic region at Rogers.
Separately, Rogers announced that it has priced a US$1 billion debt securities offering.
It expects to generate net proceeds of $990 million from the issuance, which it will use to repay outstanding advances under its bank credit facilities and for general corporate purposes.
