The Senegalese government has issued a public call for applications to take part in the 4G licensing contest it will hold next year.
The Regulatory Authority for Telecommunications and Posts (ARTP) announced that would-be participants have until 18 January 2016 to submit their applications.
The licensing process will be open to companies registered under Senegalese law that already hold a licence for the operation of telecoms networks and services, the regulator said.
Senegal is home to three main mobile network operators.
Orange leads the market with 8.33 million subscribers – or a 56% share – as of the end of September, according to data provided by the ARTP.
Millicom’s Tigo and African player Expresso claimed 23% and 21% respectively at the same date.
The market’s 14.91 million mobile customers give it a 110% penetration rate, the regulator said. More than 99% of the total are prepaid customers.
