SK Telecom this week selected Accedian for real-time mobile network monitoring, and talked up the critical importance of quality of service and quality of experience for next-generation mobile networks.

The deal will see Accedian provide SK Telecom with a centralised view of network performance at 12,000 of its cell sites in South Korea’s six largest cities. The companies plan to extend coverage nationwide.

"At SK Telecom, best-possible quality of customer service and experience is at the heart of our reputation and our bus iness," said Choi, Seung-won, senior vice president and head of SK Telecom’s network solution office.

"Partnering with Accedian helps us ensure the highest levels of QoS and QoE, which is particularly important as we continue to extend our network towards 5G, and to expand coverage with small cells, making the need for 24×7 end-to-end network visibility critical," he said.

According to Accedian, SK Telecom will use its monitoring solution to detect traffic bursts and bottlenecks in its mobile network to help it improve QoS and network capacity where it is most needed. It will also help the operator identify and correct network misconfigurations and optimise fault failover to reduce downtime.

"SK Telecom is a premier example of a mobile service provider pushing network performance and technology to the limit," said Accedian founder and CEO, Patrick Ostiguy. "They are early adopters and innovators, and their efforts result in the extremely high levels of service and experience quality their customers have come to expect. Accedian is honoured to help support their performance assurance objectives through our comprehensive solutions."
