U.S. mobile operator names new enterprise group president, pledges to win business customers.

Sprint late last week named Jan Geldmacher as the new president of its enterprise division, a move that looks set to trigger a business services push on the part of the U.S. telco.

Geldmacher has served as CEO of Vodafone Global Enterprise for the past six years, but will join Sprint on 22 August, the firm said.

In his new role he will oversee business-to-business sales and will report directly to Sprint chief executive Marcelo Claure, the operator said.

"Under Geldmacher’s leadership, Sprint will begin aggressively targeting and serving enterprise companies of all sizes," Sprint said, in a statement.

"Our network is performing better than ever, making it the ideal time to double-down on our efforts and focus on winning again in the enterprise segment," Claure added.

"Jan’s impressive track record of driving growth and market share while integrating new technologies and launching new products makes him the perfect leader for this important business unit," the chief executive said.

Geldmacher will bring with him extensive experience in the telecoms sector. Prior to taking the Vodafone Global Enterprise role in 2010, he spent two years as director of Vodafone’s enterprise business unit in Germany, and prior to that he served as CEO of BT Germany.

"Sprint is a respected brand, and enterprise is an excellent opportunity to grow the company’s market share, reduce churn and improve customer satisfaction," said Geldmacher.

"I have a great deal of experience in managing large enterprise teams in tough markets, and I am eager to join Sprint and be a part of its turnaround."
