StarHub on Wednesday became the latest telco to go over the top (OTT), with the launch of new video streaming service.

The Singaporean operator already has a standard TV offering, but now its customers can access premium content on their mobile devices via the new service, called StarHub Go.

At launch the service will offer more than 300 hours of content. StarHub said this will increase on a weekly basis, reaching almost 1,000 hours by the end of 2015.

"We recognise that consumers are increasingly accessing a wide variety of digital content across multiple devices. Therefore, the introduction of StarHub Go — with its carefully-curated line-up along with a superior viewing experience — is specially designed to address customers’ needs for an over-the-top streaming service," said Lin Shu Fen, head of entertainment at StarHub, in a statement.

Three tiers of service are available. The entry-level Go Basic package costs S$9.90 (€6.30) per month and comes with lifestyle shows, dramas, children’s entertainment, and documentaries. S$19.90 per month unlocks Go Premium, which comes with a broader selection that includes HBO content, and for S$24.90 per month, customers can subscribe to Go Sports, which offers live football, tennis, basketball and golf.

"To top it off, StarHub mobile customers can even enjoy streaming on the go without having to worry about data charges," Lin said.

StarHub contract customers can charge StarHub Go to their monthly fixed-line or mobile bill, while prepay customers can charge it to their prepay balance. The service is also available to non-StarHub customers, who can pay via credit card.
