Deutsche Telekom on Monday announced the appointment of Adam Sawicki as the new CEO of its Polish mobile arm.

Sawicki will join T-Mobile Polska from Polish fixed-line altnet Netia, where he currently serves as president and chief executive officer. He will take up his new post on 1 June.

"With Adam Sawicki at the helm of T-Mobile Polska, it is clear that we have the right man to tackle the Polish telecommunications market and industry," said Claudia Nemat, board member for Europe and technology at Deutsche Telekom.

"As a former CEO of GTS Central Europe and with his extensive international experience in the business and residential markets, he is a perfect strategic fit to help us ‘lead in business’ – a key element in our company’s strategy – and integrate the GTS operations we recently acquired," Nemat said.

Sawicki was at the helm of GTS from 2008 to 2011, before moving on to become CEO of Poland’s Ruch Internet, a position he left the following year to join Netia. He has also held a number of positions at various divisions of Sweden’s Telia, now TeliaSonera.

He replaces Zacharias Piperidis in the top job at T-Mobile Polska. Piperidis, chief operating officer at Greece’s OTE, has been acting as interim CEO since 1 November, following the resignation of Miroslav Rakowski.
