Iridium launches new direct-to-device strategy with Project Stardust

Virginia-based Iridium Communications has today launched Project Stardust, an evolution of its direct-to-device (D2D) strategy including3GPP 5G standards-based Narrowband-Internet of Things (NB-IoT) non-terrestrial network (NTN) service development. The solution will be based on Iridium’s existing low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellation.

Qualcomm ends satellite partnership with Iridium

Qualcomm and Iridium Communications have ended a deal that was set to provide satellite communication services to mobile phones.

The partnership, which was confirmed in January, had planned to enable satellite messaging and emergency services in smartphones powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Mobile Platforms, which would be delivered through Iridium’s satellite constellation.
