Tele Teleservices on Monday announced the appointment of a new chief financial officer.
The role goes to Anuraag Srivastava, who joins the Indian mobile operator from Indus Towers, where he served as SVP of internal audit and assurance.
A chartered accountant, Srivastava has also worked for Future Axiom Telecom and GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare, amongst others.
"These are exciting times for the telecom industry and Tata Teleservices is at the heart of this evolution," Srivastava said, in a statement.
"I look forward to working closely with the management team to capitalise on the company’s impending growth opportunities," he added.
Srivastava joins Tata Teleservices at an uncertain time for the company.
The firm operates as Tata DoCoMo brand, but that brand is due to disappear in the near future, according to press reports from earlier this year, to reflect NTT DoCoMo’s plan to exit the venture.
The Japanese mobile operator is seeking to withdraw from Tata DoCoMo, in line with the shareholder a greement it signed with Tata in 2009. However, the process is not running smoothly due to opposition from the Indian government.
With the Tatas also rumoured to be considering an exit from the mobile market, there has been much speculation over the telco’s future, including talk of a takeover by Telenor’s Uninor.
Tata DoCoMo is India’s seventh largest mobile provider with operations in 19 circles. According to the latest statistics from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), it had 62.6 million customers at the end of April, giving it a 6.4% share of the market.
