Two leading Etisalat executives take CEO roles at PTCL and mobile unit Ufone.

Pakistan Telecommunications Company Ltd (PTCL) this week announced that Daniel Ritz will take over as its new chief executive, effective on Thursday, while mobile operator Ufone has also reportedly had a change of leadership.

Ritz replaces Walid Irshaid, who has served as president and CEO of the Pakistani operator since March 2007.

Prior to taking on his new role, Ritz had held the post of chief strategy officer at Etisalat since 2012 and served on the PTCL board. His previous employers include Swisscom, where he held a number of positions including CEO of Swisscom Central & Eastern Europe, and the Boston Consulting Group.

"Taking over from a worthy predecessor in Mr. Walid Irshaid, I plan to position PTCL as an integrated telecom provider of Pakistan," Ritz said, in a statement. "The new position is a challenge that I plan to take on with all the enthusiasm and energy."

Meanwhile, PTCL’s mobile business also has a new chief executive, according to various local press reports.

Reiner Rathgeber will replace Abdul Aziz as CEO of Ufone, according to ProPakistani and other sources.

The newcomer most recently served as chief commercial officer at Etisalat, as well as overseeing the United Arab Emirates operator’s operations in Pakistan, the news outlet said.

Etisalat owns about a quarter of PTCL and has management control. Ufone is a wholly owned subsidiary of PTCL.
