Spanish incumbent to provide IoT connectivity services covering 50 countries.

Telefonica announced on Friday it has won a deal to provide IoT services to Nestlé, helping the food giant communicate with its coffee machines.

Under the deal, the Spanish incumbent will provide connectivity in more than 50 countries, and will supply its Smart m2m Solution, a platform that will enable Nestlé to manage and control its IoT communications.

With Telefonica’s help, Nestlé said it will be able to remotely configure its coffee machines, including adjusting the taste. It will also improve efficiency by enabling predictive maintenance.

"Telefonica enabled us a new way of communicating and interacting with our coffee solutions at a global scale, allowing us to personalise our customer experience. We trusted their capabilities to deliver this project and they were able to respond to our needs beyond their own network footprint," said Henri de Roo, global head of business applications at Nestlé, in a statement.

Going forward, new Nestlé Professional coffee makers will come with embedded connectivity, while legacy products will be upgraded with an add-on module to provide the same capabilities.

"This key commercial deal demonstrates our global reach and enduring relationship with Nestlé who has trusted Telefonica this time to provide cutting-edge connectivity across the globe," said José Luis Gamo, director of Telefonica Business Solutions’ European corporates and multinationals division.
