Spanish incumbent to help enterprise customers accelerate development of new IoT applications.

Telefonica this week announced it will deploy PTC’s ThingWorx IoT platform to help corporate clients cut the time and cost of rolling out IoT services.

The Spanish incumbent said ThingWorx will bring application development and analytics capabilities to its Smart Device Service, which offers connected device enablement and management to enterprises. Both will be integrated with Telefonica’s Smart M2M managed connectivity platform, which gives businesses visibility and control over their connected objects.

It means Telefonica’s enterprise customers will have access to a portfolio of IoT solutions covering applications, networks and devices.

"This agreement positions Telefonica as one of the key players in the IoT arena providing first-class services to our worldwide customers," said Vicente Muñoz, Telefonica’s chief IoT officer, in a statement on Monday.

Integrating ThingWorx with its IoT solutions will also give Telefonica’s enterprise customers the ability to remotely detect and solve problems, reducing downtime and making more efficient use of field engineers’ time.

"Telefonica choosing ThingWorx as its IoT platform of choice reinforces the value of offering rapid application development, connectivity, and analytics capabilities in a single package," said John Stuart, divisional vice president of ThingWorx partner development at PTC. "By working with Telefonica, we can bring the power of the Internet of Things to more companies around the world and help them transform the way they do business."
