Telekom Austria CEO Hannes Ametsreiter has tendered his resignation, the telco announced on Monday.
Amet sreiter, who has held the top job since April 2009 and been with the company for 19 years, will leave his post at the end of July.
There appears to be no firm succession plan. Telekom Austria chairman Wolfgang Ruttenstorfer said the board of directors will discuss the situation at their next meeting.
The telco gave no reason for Ametsreiter’s departure.
"After so many years a farewell is of course hard, but the Telekom Austria group today is in great shape as a leading convergent communications provider, has great perspectives for growth and two strong core shareholders," said Ametsreiter, in a statement.
America Movil holds 59.7% of Telekom Austria, while 28.4% is in the hands of the state via Österreichische Bundes- und Industriebeteiligungen (ÖBIB), which was formerly known as Österreichische Industrieholding (ÖIAG).
Ruttenstorfer thanked Ametsreiter "for running the business through quite challenging times, also in the transition phase of Telekom Austria Group becoming an affiliate of America Movil."
In addition to the change of ownership, Ametsreiter’s tenure also saw Telekom Austria merge its fixed and mobile businesses to create A1 Telekom Austria; in addition to leading the Telekom Austria group, Ametsreiter is also CEO of A1.
Telekom Austria is pursuing a convergence strategy across its footprint. Earlier this month it announced the acquisition of Amis, a provider of fixed-line telephony, broadband and IPTV services in Slovenia and Croatia.
As a result of the purchase, Si-mobil, Telekom Austria’s Slovenian unit, will be able to offer fixed-line services, meaning the group can claim to have convergent operations in six of its eight markets.
