Chief technology officer to step into top job next month.

Telenor has appointed Ingeborg Øfsthus as the new chief executive if its Serbian operation and as an executive vice president of the Telenor group.

Øfsthus, who has served as chief technology officer of Telenor Serbia since September 2012 having joined the Norwegian telecoms group in 1998, will take up her new post on 1 March.

She replaces Ove Fredheim, who has been given new responsibilities within the group, Telenor said.

In addition to her role at Telenor Serbia, Øfsthus has also served as CTO of the group’s operation in Montenegro and has held various positions at Telenor’s businesses in Germany, Thailand and Norway.

"Her vast technical background and solid understanding of the Serbian telecom market makes me confident that she will continue to strengthen Telenor’s position," said Telenor CEO Sigve Brekke.

"Her background from several Telenor markets has given her valuable international experience, an additional asset to Telenor Group’s executive management team," he said.

According to Telenor, its Serbian unit is the country’s largest mobile operator with 3.2 million subscribers.
